The Varsity Cats scored 8 first period goals Sunday night in Gurnee en route to a 15-0 thrashing of a clearly overmatched Grayslake club. Three Cats recorded hat tricks: Justin Antolec, Jack Rieke (5 points) and Nick Young (5 points). A total of 12 Cats made it onto the score sheet, with Antolec leading the team with 6 total points. Max Laughlin made 10 saves to record the team’s first shutout of the season. The Cats fired 55 shots at two beleaguered Grayslake netminders.

Other Cats with big nights include Connor Krukowski with 2 goals and 2 assists and Tommy Tambourine with 1 goal and 2 assists. Matt Majewski, Jeff Martin and Peter Henderson each scored goals, while Brad Feinman, Joey Vandermey, Greg Majewski and Stephen Stanis were all credited with assists. Feinman’s assist came late in the first on a monster blast from the point that touched Young’s stick on the way in to give Nick the hat trick.

The Cats fans were pleased to see the offensive explosion, but remained largely subdued out of respect for a Grayslake team having a very rough night. No hats were tossed on the ice despite the multiple hat tricks.

This Wednesday’s game against undefeated perennial power Barrington should prove to be a real test for the Cats.
