The Varsity Icecats took a 7-2 beating Tuesday in an exhibition game against a fast, tough and skilled Lake Forest Academy squad.

Despite falling behind 5-0 after two periods, the Icecats kept at it, scoring 2 early in the third to make a game of it. Nick Young tallied first, another “don’t give up until the whistle” goal assisted by Shawn Rieke. It was barely a minute later when Tommy Tambourine made it interesting with an unassisted tally, closing the gap to 5-2.

That was as close as it got. LFA managed two more tallies to end the game 7-2.

Goalie Max Laughlin had his hands full all night trying to keep the swarming LFA players from scoring. He made 24 saves, including several difficult point blank chances. The Cats shot 23 at two different LFA goalies.

It wasn’t the Cats best outing, but it was a useful test against a skilled opponent. It didn’t help having 4 key players, Brad Feinman, Jeff Martin, Mike Lauber and Connor Krukowski, out of the lineup nursing various injuries.

Shawn and Jake Goldwater played up from JV to fill out the bench, and both were noticable on the ice, generating scoring chances and shots on goal.
