A shorthanded varsity Icecats squad lost 5-3 last night to an equally depleted Lake Forest Academy squad in an exhibition match at Glacier. This was the second exhibition game between the two teams. LFA carried the first handily 7-2. Last night’s game was much closer, with the Cats leading 3-1 at the end of the first. LFA kept at it, taking the lead with six minutes remaining in the third. LFA added an empty netter with seconds left on the clock to seal the game.

Cats goalie Max Laughlin withstood a 30-shot onslaught, including several odd man rushes, and kept his team in the game with some dramatic saves. Cats forward Nick Young turned the role of agitator into an art form, drawing multiple penalties from LFA players who seemed to take a very strong dislike to Nick’s exuberant style of play.

The Cats played the game with a line up depleted by the all star game, injuries and conflicts with other school activities. Missing were Justin Antolec, Connor Krukowski, Brad Feinman, Tommy Tambourine, Stephen Stanis, Matt Majewski and Ian Donnahoo.

Goalie Erich Held suited up as a skater and even scored the team’s first goal on the power play, assisted by Jeff Martin. Also scoring were Nick and Tyler Shanholtzer. Jack Reike and Tony Rossetti earned assists.

The Cats face off at 6 pm today against Guerin in Franklin Park.
