The Varsity Icecats tied the CCM Tigers 3-3 Saturday night at Glacier. This was the Cats third tie in the last four league games. It was a big improvement over the teams’ previous meeting, which ended with CCM beating the Cats 7-2.

The IceCats kicked off the scoring when Connor Krukowski scored less than three minutes into the game, assisted by Tommy Tambourine and Jeff Martin. The Cats added another one at the 4:34 mark, when Jack Reike stuffed home a rebound in a goal crease scramble, assisted by Krukowski.  Early in the second, what would have been a CCM power play goal was waved off because a CCM player kicked it in. Just a minute later, CCM put one in that counted. The period ended with the Cats up 2-1.

Unfortunately, the Cats could not hold the lead. After going up 3-1 early in the third on a goal by Tyler Shanholtzer (assisted by Martin), CCM scored two unanswered goals, leading to the 3-3 finish. Cats goalie Max Laughlin made 21 saves in a solid effort.

The Cats now have 14 points and are in either third or fourth place in the Metro Central National Division, depending on the outcome of Friday’s game between Carmel Catholic and Guerin.

Tonight at 6:30, the Cats take on Fremd at West Meadows.
